Coleonema album
RUTACEAE
Caitlin von Witt 2020-10-25
- A dainty sweet-smelling buchu, the confetti bush has linear leaves that create a soft-textured delicate appearance, making it one of the prettiest fynbos plants to have in your garden. Flowering season brings with it a little sprinkling of confetti in the form of a mass of tiny, white, honey-scented, star-shaped flowers that attract a multitude of insect pollinators. Its sweet-smelling citrus leaves contain essential oils with anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.
- Flowering time: August-October
In your garden: For gardens on the lower slopes of Table Mountain or along the coast, where it is well-adapted to salt-laden air and sandy conditions in Cape Flats Dune Strandveld. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Cut back after seed set to keep its shape.
Distribution: Southwestern Cape along the coast and on granite or sandstone outcrops
