Why buy exotic rosemary when you can grow your very own local Cape Town lowland plants? Not only are the leaves edible, but the flowers provide a beautiful winter display when little else is flowering. The Afrikaans name ‘kapokbos’ refers to the fluffy white seedheads which resemble snow. These are used by birds to create a soft duvet-like lining for their nests.
Drink the leaves as a tea to cure coughs and colds; use them in pot pourri sachets, or sprinkle them over salmon fillets and bake in the oven on a bed of dune spinach a la MakingKos!
